I’m in the process of recruiting a new Product Manager to join my team and as with many recruiters, the ratio of “applicants” to “potentially suitable applicants” isn’t as great as it could be.

There are always too many people who apply for roles who are not really suited for it and who could have identified this themselves prior to applying. There are also too many people who haven’t taken enough care before they’ve applied.

Here I’ll look at why some of these applicants didn’t make it past the first review stage:
